“Overnight Stay with Family” New York Jul 25, 2010

We spent one night at the Inn at Starlight Lake and what a delightful experience it was for all of us. The little lake and ambiance of the inn was more than we expected. We were there with our sons, their wives, and two one-year old granddaughters and the owners were very accommodating. The food in their restaurant was excellent. There were plenty of activities to take part in if you so desired or you could just sit on their beautiful porch and enjoy the lake and the scenery. The rooms were tastefully decorated as was the inn itself. We would not hesitate to go back again if the opportunity presents itself.

“Great place to stay, quiet, friendly staff and very accommodating owners” Abington, Massachusetts Jul 17, 2010

Stayed at the Inn with my three sisters for a visit with relatives nearby. The staff and owners were very friendly and hospitable. Anything we needed they provided. The wait staff was wonderful and the food was delicious. The accommodations were just what we expected for an old inn. It was quiet and comfortable. We all agreed that we would go back there again.

“Warm & cozy” Westport Conn Dec 16, 2009

I found the Inn very warm & friendly....The food was excellent and the staff was all ways around to help out in anyway. It is a Country Inn, nothing fancy, just simple and nice. If you’re looking for action, top of the line furnishings, spa (with hot tubs) the Inn is not for you. If you looking for a peaceful, relaxing, beautiful country views and friendly people Starlight Inn is the place to go.

“Relaxing Place to Unwind” Fairfield County, CT Sep 7, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Inn after a particularly hectic season at our jobs. We found it relaxing and felt pampered. The setting on a lake between mountains was especially tranquil. We relaxed and read and talked sitting on the dock, on the long porch, in the lobby, at the bar, in the restaurant looking out on the lake, and in our room. We were comfortable and never lacked for a quick beverage or other vacationers to chat with. I was very impressed with the restaurant. The menu offered a great selection of items from comfort food to dishes that must've been designed to take advantage of seasonal ingredients. I was able to substitute veggies for starchier items and receive exactly what I requested. Everything was flavorful, sauces were light, and the desserts were to die for. The full breakfast was a hearty way to start the day, and included in the room price. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many breakfast choices for an included meal. I took advantage of the Spa for a massage. Definitely a treat, In fact, we enjoyed our stay so much, that less than a month later we took our daughters up there for a birthday lunch and Spa treatments. Well worth the drive for a day trip. But, the real beauty is in staying enough nights to truly unwind.

“Lovely and Charming!” Long Island, NY Jul 30, 2009

My wife and I were traveling up state NY and stumbled on the Inn at Lake Starlight. At first we were only going to stay one night, it was so lovely we ended up staying 3 nights! The lake is beautiful!!!!! The food was great and a real nice bar. The owners and their staff were very warm and accommodating. We will try to return one more time this summer.

“We always enjoy returning” Connecticut Jun 24, 2009

We just spent several nights at the Inn. We always enjoy coming back. This is a great place to decompress. Time moves at a very relaxing pace. Leave the laptop and cell phone at home. There are plenty of things to do, rain or shine. The rooms, though not large, are quite comfortable, and most have a full large bath. You can’t beat the full breakfast that comes with the room. All meals at the restaurant are carefully prepared and reasonably priced. Besides all the attractions that the lake and countryside offer, there are large common areas inside the Inn for relaxation as well. Try out the new Spa! The staff is friendly and can offer many suggestions about area activities and sights.

“Relaxing Vacation” Florida May 26, 2009

We hadn't been to Starlight in over ten years. When we arrived it was like being back home. The Inn is now 100 years old and still has the charm we grew to love. If you want quiet, peaceful, serenity and just plain comfort, this is the place. This is the type of place where you can explore the countryside or in the winter cross-country skiing or do absolutely nothing. NO TV. No cell phone service (unless you have Verizon). Didn't miss any of it. Dinner was delicious, and a great value. Breakfast was terrific, and it's included in the room rate. There have been renovations which have made the Inn more functional and updated, but has not taken away from its charm. We enjoyed our stay and will return again.

“Blast from the past” Philadelphia, PA May 9, 2009

This place is not like "historic inns" that get million dollar renovations and full upgrades. It was like walking into 1909 but with electricity and running water. I was searching for a place to stay during fishing season along the Delaware River (without a reservation) and Hancock, NY was booked solid; a sign near the center/border of town pointed to cross the Delaware River into PA for The Inn. I was looking for a motel but the bed & breakfast was having a $100/night special rate to celebrate their 100th anniversary until their summer rates take effect. Their summer rate is on the border of being too high for me but I know my wife and 2 kids will love this place. My Verizon cell phone worked so I was able to communicate with my friends I had to meet up with to fish in the A.M. but there is no internet cafe/Wi-Fi area but I would bring my laptop and the portable DVD player for the kids; no TV's in the rooms. This one family employee talked my ear off but it made me understand why his in-laws (past loyal guests) bought the place when they heard it was for sale and why there is no TV & AC in the rooms (gut the place and lose the character). The food was way better than I expected for this area (Hancock has diner's and fast food); it's "family fine-dining" with something for everybody, just come dressed I was told. Everything is charged to your room bill and settled at check-out; the 15% gratuity on the whole bill seemed high but when I did the math in my truck for a (full American breakfast was in the room rate) dinner I had after checking-in, drinks at the bar, a TOGO lunch made for me after breakfast before I checked out and what I should've left on the dresser for the housekeeper-it was fair. The innkeepers I got to know while having a couple drinks seemed rough-around-the-edges at first but they aren't "local", just the kind waitresses and housekeeper are. I got to give the family of four innkeepers credit for keeping together a 22 room inn/B&B (with 3 cottages) that needs constant upkeep without losing it's rustic charm. I'll be back with the family! Didn't get to try the: outdoor shuffleboard, horseshoe pit, boats on the lake (non-motors only), kids playground (no need to explain), bikes, tennis court, basketball (one end of the tennis court); did get to try: the indoor shuffleboard and pool table (my kids will camp out by the ping-pong table). There was a TV room with cable and movie library and I was allowed to watch ESPN on the bar's flat screen. I was told to tell my wife that the innkeepers were building a day spa to open in May. Do not expect to be waited on like you're the only guest in "grandma's tiny B&B" but you get more than just a (slightly dated) room when you stay here.

“Cozy, warm and welcoming” Unadilla, New York Nov 30, 2008

We selected the inn at Starlight Lake for our three day honeymoon. The hosts, sari and Jim Schwartz were warm and welcoming. We had booked online and initially selected 'treetops'. Upon our arrival, Sari was so thoughtful to show us both treetops and the suite, offering either as our reservation. We loved the suite - we loved the inn- the dining room-the menu with so many delectable choices and the delicious food. Dining was a real pleasure and the sweets, all created on site, was an added bonus. The wait staff was helpful, pleasant and professional. We enjoyed the grounds, loved the fact that we could canoe around the lake in October and love the fact that we were able to include our dog in our long walks around the lake. We took a few steps out of our suite and felt like we had our own tennis court, which we also were able to enjoy. We thank Sari and Jim Schwartz for making a memorable honeymoon even more so with their great inn, nestled in beautiful surroundings and the care provided us. We very much appreciated that this is a pet friendly facility. We want to return to the inn and experience the summer season and again in the fall to celebrate our first anniversary!

“Beautiful serenity” New Jersey Oct 26, 2008

Staying at this inn was liking spending the weekend at a friend's old but warm and inviting country home with all its little idiosyncrasies that add to the overall charm of the place. Don't go if you are looking for trendy hotel design, a cutting edge culinary experience or the typical though distracting amenities (like in-room flat-screen tvs) to keep you entertained. DO go if you seek serenity or time to reconnect with friends or with that special someone or even with your own inner peace. If watching the morning mist rise off the lake while sipping a cup of coffee on the inn's porch sounds appealing, then this is the place to see it . And don't overlook the lake at night. After a satisfying dinner at the inn's restaurant, snuggle down in one of the chairs on the lakeside deck, lean back and watch the sky fill with stars. As for accommodations, I can only speak about Room 14. While it shows the inn's age somewhat, I didn't see that as a negative...propping open old-fashioned windows with a stick is charming. The room itself was very clean and the spacious, modern bathroom was immaculate (just remember to bring your own blow dryer if you can't live without one as I can't). I'm very happy that we found this lovely little unpretentious inn and I look forward to a winter getaway there in December.

“Peaceful Mountain escape” Philadelphia Jul 30, 2008

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful, relaxing 3 day get-away. We have traveled all over Europe, North and Central America. We enjoy anything from Bed and Breakfasts to luxurious hotels and condos. Our first time here, this lake-view retreat was so peaceful and relaxing. We alternated between enjoying the many activities and just relaxing and reading on the lovely naturally shaded dock. In the daytime we enjoyed biking, boating and swimming in the lake. As we rode bikes on the forest-bordered rail-trail we tried to imagine ourselves being two of the guests traveling from New York City by train to stay at the inn for a restful retreat from the hot, bustling city almost 100 years ago. One night we played Scrabble which we chose from the 30 + board games they had in a game cabinet; we actually finished the whole game. The next night we had a blast playing ping-pong. There was a large choice of recreation equipment. My only wish would have been some more attention to the upkeep of the equipment: more tennis balls, better tennis and ping-pong rackets, replacement of the sticky bicycle handle grips, replacement of missing kayak or canoe paddles and a large size men’s life vest. A larger bike for a tall adult would be great too. Both nights we made sure to sit in the charming lobby, were drawn to the front porch rockers and later viewed the stars on Starlight Lake. Despite the fact that some lights in the area prevented ideal viewing of the stars, we loved it and were thrilled when we saw a shooting star. The room was simple, a little dated and small but clean and comfortable. I am particular about my beds, having had a back problem and owning an expensive mattress; this queen mattress was comfortable. There was no air conditioning, but we didn’t need it. Despite 90-degree days the nights were cool or cold, especially with the help of a window fan. We knew we would be in the room mostly at night; the spacious and period-decorated public area made up for it. We enjoyed meeting interesting guests and witnessed many return clientele coming and going. The owners are ever-present to assure the Inn is well run. They are very business-like but accommodating. The surprise added treat was the Restaurant. Not only did we have a full breakfast included with the room, but we decided to eat dinner there. We never expected such delicious food in a remote inn. The food was outstanding! The owners’ daughter is the chef. She makes everything fresh from soup to desert. The food is delicious and the dishes are creative. We were fortunate to have Karen as our server for three of our meals. She was a gem, the most customer friendly and accommodating server you could have. So if you are looking for a restful getaway, want to be among nature, stay in a place that is a part of history and be fed very well, this may be the place for you.

“Great Remote Getaway” Rochester, NY Feb 6, 2008

Starlight Lake is a great mountain get away. Had a overnight 1 day stay with my girlfriend. The Inn is very friendly and welcoming. A nice mountain atmosphere. The restaurant is very good room was clean and the fireplace was a great touch. Would go back again!
